Student credit cards are the credit cards especially designed for high school students, college students or sophomores, or university students. These credit cards are aimed to help students manage their own finances, and can help them build up their credit history.

According to the recent study by United College Marketing Services, the student credit lines have increased to over $6,000, and credit card usage among the teenagers has tripled since 2001.

However, in certain cases, credit card companies are accused of targeting much younger students who are quite inexperienced at managing their own finances. Sometimes students are already in debt with college tuition fees and college loans.

The students aging 18 years or above in many countries and most U.S. states are eligible for a credit card without parental consent or employment, but in the cases of the students below 18 years, the credit card companies are required to get approval of students’ parents, wards or educational institutions. The procedure is termed as student credit card approval.
